Rev. Fr. Anil Ivan Fernandes is a Roman Catholic priest, communication strategist, media educator, and Artificial Intelligence specialist whose work brings together faith, communication, education, and emerging technologies.
Based in Mangalore, India, Fr. Anil serves as Director of the Canara Communication Centre of the Diocese of Mangalore, where he leads diocesan communication, multimedia production, digital evangelization, public relations, and communication strategy. He also serves as Secretary of the diocesan Commission for Social Communication and is a member of the Diocesan PR Team.
A Gold Medalist with a Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication, Fr. Anil combines academic formation in communication with studies in philosophy and theology. His expertise covers digital media, public relations, media literacy, digital campaigning, multimedia production, cybersecurity awareness, digital well-being, and the responsible integration of Artificial Intelligence.
Fr. Anil is also a Google-Certified AI Coach and an advocate for responsible and ethical AI. Through AIlumina – AI for Faith and Formation, an initiative he founded, he has led more than 90 AI workshops reaching over 10,000 participants, including priests, educators, young people, and professionals. His approach goes beyond teaching people how to use AI tools: he promotes an understanding of technology grounded in human dignity, ethics, critical thinking, responsibility, and service.
His professional and pastoral experience gives him a particular ability to translate rapidly evolving technologies into practical solutions for organizations and communities. He works at the intersection of AI literacy, digital transformation, communication strategy, education, and evangelization, helping people understand not only what new technologies can do, but how they can be used responsibly and meaningfully.
